These mountain bike products aren't the ones you would typically find on cycling channels, although one did apparently win an award. Whether it's for your bike, your shop, or for something loosely related to bicycles in general, we've got you covered.

Random Mountain Bike Questions Quiz
Просмотров 132 тыс.Месяц назад
Bikes can be complicated machines. They have tons of moving parts, constantly changing “standards,” and plenty of different words for what is sometimes the same thing. This week, we wanted to do something a little bit different and put together a quiz to allow everyone to test their knowledge. Challenge yourself and challenge your friends-take score and let us know how you fared in the comments...
Testing the Cheapest Bike Tools on AliExpress - Part One
Просмотров 370 тыс.2 месяца назад
In a perfect world, everyone should own high-quality bicycle tools. However, in the real world, a broke college student needing to replace their cassette doesn’t always have the means to pay a bike shop. Thus, the $3 cassette tool enters the scene. We know that anything of good quality carries a premium and, at a point, a diminishing return, especially depending on the volume of use it gets. To...
How the Bike Industry Takes Bike Photos
Просмотров 218 тыс.2 месяца назад
Have you ever wondered why photos of bikes you see on a website or in a magazine look so damn good? Is it the camera? Is it the fact that it’s a professional athlete’s finely tuned race bike, or is it simply brand new? Maybe it was photographed in a studio? Photoshopped? Maybe…While it surely could and very well may be one or a combination of several of those factors, in reality, it’s usually m...
The Rise and Fall (and Rise Again) of Cannondale's HeadShok
Просмотров 352 тыс.3 месяца назад
In the 1990's, the HeadShok was one of the smoothest suspension forks out there, but eventually certain limitations forced Cannondale to rethink their design. What came next was the one legged 'Lefty' fork, which used technology from the HeadShok and lives on to this day. Both are extremely smooth, and had/have a cult following. The Genius of Narrow Wide Chainrings - Why they work!
Просмотров 720 тыс.3 месяца назад
The 'narrow-wide' chainring is a drive gear for a bicycle that features an alternating tooth profile. This is to say, one tooth is wide, and the next is narrow just like a bicycle chain. Today we'll watch slow motion footage demonstrating why these gears are so effective at keeping your chain on. The only thing ' dorky ' about a dork disk is that 99.99% of the are made of the worst, cheapest easily deteriorated plastic on earth and crack and break up in short order. Unless you have something like an old Schwinn where they are made of chromed steel. I just made one for bike i am building that is made of aluminum.

Can you add 27.5" tires to this one? I'm interested in purchasing it. I'm 5'6", but the medium frame felt a little large and wondered if it could be larger tires. Hard to "test ride" in the store with the tires are so flat to get a good feel. I'm a beginner and have just borrowed bikes in the past. Would like something affordable that I can grow into a little

You didn't get the carnage you were hoping for because the bike wasn't being pedaled so there was no stress on the chain. If you drop the chain like that while pedaling hard, you WILL pull your chain between you cassette and spokes so tightly you won't be able do pull the chain out, because your legs are much stronger than your arms, and it will cause your wheel to lock up. Your chain will chew up your spokes, causing them to break either immediately, or a few rides later. Been there, done that. Several times on the same bike. For science.

This type of tool is ideal for the average cyclist... Let's face it, how often does a rider disassemble a bottom bracket to clean it? Once every 6 months? Never? 😂 If you buy from parktool each tool is 30 dollars or more, for someone who services his bike every 5 months it's not worth it, I bought my tools from aliexpress 2 years ago and they still work, they are not pretty and don't look like they were made in Germany but I bought them for 15 dollars for an almost complete set and they do the job.

Cool video! Someone makes tire levers that assemble into half notches in one end of each and convert into chain pliers and they seem to work! They are okay tire levers and okay pliers and weigh little, cost little and you want tire levers anyway... I think a big strap wrench might have worked instead of Chanellock pliers and wrapping with duct tape may hsve been better than using a rag and I think if you used those washers to push on a washer bigger than your threaded rod you'd have been okay. So a 1/2" washer on 1/2" rod pushing a 3/4" washer thats bigger around pushed with your 1/2" nuts of course. Instead of needle nose pliers on the master link try those circlip type pliers with prongs protruding. They fit better inside the chain or use a small version of needle nose pliers as the jaws might fit better. Also there are round rod type jaws on some pliers. Some of these things can be used for non-bike things and so thats a big advantage. Also they made adjustable wrenches with thinner jaws than the standard ones and that has a lot of applications on bikes but still works on all dorts of non-bike applications like any adjustable wrench. Even if you have tje standard rype buy a thin jawed one as wrenches are often used in pairs anyway.
